My small bit for those better then me…

March 10, 2010

If you say, ‘Who cares?’

We say we do.

If you say, ‘Why do you want to help them?’

We say because they suffer

If you say, ‘But they are nothing to you.’

We say they are everything to us

If you say, ‘How do you know they are innocent?’

We say because you never gave them a chance

If you say, ‘Won’t you only bring trouble to your door?’

We say it’s only through this we will be helped

If you say, ‘Who will be concerned by this?’

We say anyone with a conscience

If you say, ‘But there is no smoke without fire’

We say you are right; the media would never lie

If you say, ‘What are you prepared to do?’

We say whatever we can

If you say, ‘What difference can you make?’

We say better to stand and be counted than hide in the shadows…

  3. Prisoner of War

Trapped – Alone, with nothing but four walls

The mind wanders to cherished memories and beyond

Time continues to go by but life stalls

I’m losing my strength to hold on.

Imprisoned for believing, for hearing and obeying

Punished for testifying and affirming the Truth

Prisoner of War of conflicting ideologies

    Flawed system which detains indiscriminately

No evidence, no proof – a threat to national security.

Counting each day, each month, each year behind these metal bars

Stripped of my honour, my dignity, and free speech

Humiliated by the media, every trial, court hearing,

    Wild accusations, slander and lies

    As they try to vilify

My character, the core of my being,

I silently scream to be free.

I long to feel the cool morning breeze

And hear the fajr birds sing

To see Autumn leaves fall from the trees

And the magical moments that freedom can bring.

A flame of hope continues to burn bright

By the letters I receive, which my brothers write

My heart delights as I read each word again and again

Golden words of comfort, calling me to patience

Provide solace to the soul and a shred of humanity

In this cell my home, devoid of any luxuries

Helping me to retain my sanity.

I preoccupy myself with remembrance of Allaah

Console myself with the stories of the Prophets of the past

I’m not the first to be illegally detained

Sadly, I doubt I’ll be the last.

{And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Saabiroon (the patient). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: “Truly, to Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.” They are those on whom are the Salawaat (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones.} [Al-Baqarah 2:155–157]

Inna lillaahi wa inna ilayhi rajioun.
